Ngapali Beach

Myanmar's beaches on their best condition are to be found 200km to the south of Mrauk-U on the same costal line, in front of famous Bay of Bengal. Ngapali is the country's premier beach destination and 10 kilometers long stretches of sandy beach, swaying palm trees and some well-integrated bungalow-type resorts.

Some optional visits to near by small fishing villages and local markets, explore the countryside by bicycle (for rent at the hotel) and enjoy boat trips to the offshore islands. Hence, ideally recognized as exotic paradise for beach-lovers since British time, therefore Ngapali may be relax ending after having explored culturally in central Myanmar.

The ideal season for traveling to Ngapali is from November to April. The scheduled daily flights, only 45 minutes, are serving between Thandwe (the former name of Sandaway), name of nearest airport in Ngapali, and Yangon. There are also regular flights to Ngapali Beach from Heho, Bagan and Mandalay (via Heho). From Thandwe airport, it is a 20 minutes drive to Ngapali Beach.

Ngwe Saung Beach

Further south is Ngwe Saung, another area with a long pristine sandy beach. Newly opened Ngwe Saung has some fine international standard resorts with all types of water sports and excellent seafood on offer. Differently from Ngapali, Ngwe Saung can be reached by land-route for four hour, passing in the Delta, from Yangon. Hence, this trip allows travelers to also visit Pathein (Bassein) - a seldom visited trading town in Ayeyarwady delta.
 

* Pathein - former name Bassein, is the capital of Ayeyarwady division. It is the most important delta port outside of Yangon and rice milling and export centre. Pathein has a scenic waterfront, many Buddhist temples, and Pathein umbrella workshops. The colorful handmade umbrellas made in Pathein are famous in Myanmar.

As an alternative to road travel, it is possible to travel from Yangon to Pathein by River Cruise, passing typical villages dotted along the riverbanks. Countless larger and smaller tributaries interconnect the vast and fertile Ayeyarwady delta; it is major rice cultivation area in Myanmar.
