Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kyaing Tong Airport in the
afternoon and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon,
trekking tour starts with land driving out of Kyaing Tong in
west direction. The road takes towards Wan Pauk village
where red-clothed Palaung tribe with silver & lacquered
waist-bands can be observed. Drive back to Kyaing Tong.
Overnight stay at hotel in Kyaing Tong.
- NB: When Kyaing Tong is extended from other parts of
tour, you can come directly from there, and depart to
Yangon at the end. Vice visa, when Kyaing Tong is
commenced from Yangon, then you can continue directly to
other destinations by flight.
Day 2: Breakfast at hotel. This morning tour
starts with land driving out of Kyaing Tong in northwest
direction. The road takes through Kattauk Village and then
to Pin Tauk Village, about 1 1/2 hour by car. In Pin Tauk
village, Akha and Lahu people, been Baptized, have built a
church in the middle of the village. The Akha are the
largest minority in the Kyaing Tong area and surely the most
colorful. After about 15 minutes walking, arrival at the
first Akha village, Wanpin, where people still dresses in
their traditional costumes. The Akha are famous for their
women's striking headdresses, which resemble heavy silver
helmets. They consist of rows of heavy silver baubles,
interspersed with beads, which are sewn on a bamboo cap.
Akha embroidery is extremely intricate and includes panels
of diamond and geometric shapes. Walking a bit outside of
the village and have a packed-lunch under a shady tree. 1
1/2 hour walk back to the car through rice and vegetable
fields. Drive back to Kyaing Tong. On the way back, make a
stop at Wan Kam to observe famous rice wine production.

Day 3: Breakfast at hotel. This early morning
visit Kyaing Tong market - a fascinating place to soak up
the local atmosphere. On the open market, all kinds of
vegetables, rice, fruits, meat and fish are on sale.
Minority people come to town to shop or to sell their goods.
Drive towards buffalo-market at the top of hill. For the
Akha, the many silver shops are of special interest as there
they can buy the silver coins to make their very unique
headdresses! If time permits, stop at Wat In; Khun-style
temple or at the more "Myanmar"-style Maha Myat Muni temple.
Then, pottery and a blacksmith shop can be visited.
Afternoon, transfer to Kyaing Tong Airport for check-in. Fly
back from Kyaing Tong. (B)
